MUSK OX CHARACTERISTICS
Male and also female musk oxen have long curved horns as seen in our Bull Images. Musk oxen stand 4 to 5 ft high. They are one of the largest animals that Ejaz has photographed, other large animals include elephants as seen in animal wall art. They mark their trails with preorbital glands. A musk ox can reach speeds of 37 mph. The creatures in our musk ox images and pictures of musk oxen have a life expectancy of 12–20 years.
The mature oxen are always dominant over the juveniles. Dominant musk oxen often get access to the best resources and also land. They will displace subordinates from patches of grass during the winter season. Musk oxen bulls assert their dominance in many ways. Bulls are also known to roar, they swing their heads, and also paw the ground. The dominant bulls often treat subordinate bulls like cows of an ice age. A dominant bull will casually kick subordinates. Subordinate bulls can change their status among herds by charging at the dominant bull in the herd with their massive horns as seen in our musk ox images and pictures of musk oxen.
HOW CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTS THE MUSK OXEN
Taking these Musk Oxen are inexorably linked to climate stressors in the Arctic. Unlike people and other animal species, they do not adapt very well to warm weather temperatures and they are also feeling the brunt of CLIMATE CHANGE. Due to climate change, it’s been found that newborn musk ox has a smaller head size. Pregnant Musk oxen are more vulnerable and also risk starving due to climate change which leads to death or the world population decrease. Musk ox can push through the loose powdery snow aside with their snout and legs, but when rain falls on top of snow and then refreezes, it forms a hard layer of ice. Muskoxen cannot break through this ice so they struggle to find food.
PICTURES OF MUSK OX FOR CONSERVATION
As a fashion photographer, I pay the models. As a wildlife photographer, I can not pay the musk oxen herd in these photographs of animals. I’ve developed relationships with conservation organizations such as the Wolf Conservation Center, and World Animal Protection. A percentage of all print sales is given to these organizations to preserve animals. When you purchase a musk oxen print, a musk ox photo, or images of musk ox for your home decor, you are directly helping the animals.
PICTURES OF THE MUSK OXEN, THE ARCTIC GIANT
On my expeditions to capture musk oxen pictures and images of musk ox as well as musk ox photography, I have gained so much knowledge of these amazing beasts. With a local name that translates to ‘the bearded one,’ the arctic musk ox is a large species of herbivore weighing up to 800 pounds or so. They adapt to the Arctic with several layers of hair, and their signature horns are a deadly weapon (and make for a significant focus during photography!). You can find herds in the Arctic region. To see one in the flesh is astonishing — it’s so remarkable what Mother Nature is capable of. Where are musk oxen found? I had the privilege to photograph images of musk oxen first in Norway then in the Canadian arctic. Most importantly, I was mesmerized each time I came face to face with them. Their coat, a mix of black, grey, and also brown, includes long guard hairs that almost reach the ground as seen in these pictures and images of musk oxen. Which picture of a musk oxen or musk ox photo is your favorite?
Natives living in the arctic region generally use musk ox wool or musk ox yarn due to the length, softness, and also warmth it provides. They also have very thick horns on top of their forehead that work as a shield for the head butting for dominance in the herd. When people ask to show me a picture of a musk ox or images of musk oxen, I welcome them to my gallery.
Other animals in snow photos include the snowy owl in this minimalist wall art. Perhaps a bird in warmer weather suits you, visit our Bird Art page.
Ejaz loves the cold environment but he also enjoys photographing horses in France as seen in these stunning photos Horse Wall Art and How fast can a horse run | Seize the Moment.
MUSK OXEN DESCRIPTION FACTS
Musk oxen live in the frozen Arctic, a snow winter habitat. They roam the tundra searching for roots, mosses, and lichens to feed upon. During the winter, they use their hooves to dig through snow to graze on these plants. In the summertime, their diet includes Arctic flowers and grasses, as well as feeding near water.
